Welcome to the 39th Humormeister's Forum edition

With a new year in front of us, I sincerely hope that one of your prime objectives for 2011 is to create more humor and laughter in your life.

For years I have made it a point to write down my objectives for the year. It is amazing how we tend to be more committed when we put our objectives in writing.

So therefor, if you haven't already done so, write down your objectives for the year and make creating more humor and laughter a prime objective.

Happiness motivational quote of the month

Humor/Laughter quote

The 1 Minute Laugh

A wife, one evening, drew her husband's attention to the couple next door and said "Do you see that couple? How devoted they are? He kisses her every time they meet. Why don't you do that?"

"I would love to," replied the husband, "but I don't know her well enough."

Humor from our richest 'Humor Resource'......our kids

A 6 year-old granddaughter noticed her grandpa using a handkerchief, blowing his nose and then putting the handkerchief back into his pocket.

She cornered grandma and whispered to her, "Why does grandpa use a piece of cloth to put his boogers in, and then put it into his pocket?"

Grandma explained that this was a handkerchief and that grandpa had used a handkerchief all his life.

The granddaughter then asked, "grandma do you have to wash that booger cloth?"

Feature of the month

What causes happiness?

Happiness is not a 'feel good' state of mind. It is vital to a person's well-being.

Linkage between happiness and success was studied by a team led by professor Sonja Lyubomirsky from the University of of California, Riverside.

The team analyzed questionnaires which asked people about all kinds of aspects of their lives. The analysis showed that happy people tend to earn higher incomes.

The assumption has always been that those things that correlate with happiness are the causes of happiness. However, professor Ed Diener from the University of Illinois points out that it could be just the opposite, that those things tend to be caused by happiness.

There are other studies that found having a sunny outlook on life appeared to precede being successful in life.

There is proven evidence according to professor Lyubomirsky that happiness makes people more sociable, as well as generous, more productive in the workplace, earn more money, and have a stronger immune system.

The research results show that success can lift people's spirits, People need happiness in the first place to achieve success.

Professor Diener's team defined happiness and success by the things that can be obtained that culture or society values, whether this is friends, close family ties, money and income, or even longevity.
